A. Introduction and Tournament Overview

Warm Welcome to the Hotshot Summer Badminton Tournament 2026!

Huge thank you to everyone for choosing to participate — 145 teams, 236 badminton summer warriors. Get ready to serve up some summer fun with exciting rallies (or surprise shots!), powerful smashes (or mishits!), and plenty of friendly yet competitive matches (for sure!).

We hope you are ready to rally your way on to the court. But actually you have no choice but to get ready because the games will begin really soon! See you on the 18th of July!

B. Rules, Conditions and Other Tournament Matters

I. Laws of Badminton and Badminton Ireland (BI) Regulations

The laws of badminton as per Badminton World Federation (BWF) Statutes Section 4.1, Version 5.0 in force as of 26 April 2025 shall apply to all games in this tournament.

Furthermore, the BI Tournament rules and regulations shall also apply. In case there is disagreement between the BI Tournament rules and the rules set out in the next section, the rules and regulations in this document will prevail and shall be followed.

II. Player Eligibility, Registration and Cancellation

Any BI-affiliated player is eligible to join and play in the tournament. Players are encouraged to register for the event of their current Division. Eligible players can play in higher divisions, but not lower. Hotshot BC Committee reserves the right to relegate any player to the correct division or cancel their entry before or during the tournament.

Registrations closed 2 July 2026. Cancellations shall be allowed until 13 July 2026. Any changes to registrations after the deadline shall be decided at the sole discretion of Hotshot BC Tournament Committee. For cancellations after the deadline, generally refunds shall not be permitted.

III. Tournament Format

This tournament shall have three disciplines: Men's Doubles (MD), Mixed Doubles (XD) and Women's Doubles (WD), divided into four Division groups: Division 1-3, 4-5, 6-7 and 8-9.

The tournament shall start with the Preliminary Round, with Semi-Finals (SF) in some events, and end with the Finals (F) match to determine the winners. More details for the Preliminary Round and Semi-finals, if any, per event are as follows:

B. Rules, Conditions and Other Tournament Matters (continued)

Preliminary Round Ranking

In the single round robin preliminary round, the ranking in a group after all the matches are played shall be based on the following:

  1. Total games won.
  2. If tied in total games won, total points difference shall break the tie. Total points difference is calculated as total points won minus total points lost.
  3. If still tied in total games won and total points difference, head-to-head match result comparison shall break the tie.
  4. If teams are still tied after the above tie-breakers, they shall play one decider game to 15 points, no setting.

V. Match Format

Semi-finalsEach match shall be played in best of 3 games, 15 points each (setting allowed to 20 points).
FinalsEach match shall be played in best of 3 games, 15 points each (setting allowed to 20 points).

VI. Check-in and Start of Matches

Players are expected to check in and register with the Hotshot BC Tournament Committee at the check-in desk at the time designated for their match groups. Failure to check-in between the designated check-in time and the published official start time of the match shall warrant disqualification from the matches at the sole discretion of the Hotshot BC Tournament Committee.

Similarly, failure to show up at published official start time of the match or when called by the designated Hotshot BC Tournament Committee on the designated court shall also warrant disqualification from the match.

First Service and Court Side Allocation

Before the match commences, a toss shall be conducted by teams to determine who serves first and which sides of the courts they are playing on. The team who wins the first/preceding game shall have the first service in the next game.

VII. Umpire, Line Judge and Scorekeepers

There will be no umpires and linesmen officiating the matches. The teams are expected to decide on calls and award points on their own.

Also, the teams are expected to keep scores throughout the match. Scores after every game shall be reported to the designated Hotshot BC Tournament Committee member.

VIII. Shuttles

Yonex Aerosensa 30 shuttles shall be used in all the games in this tournament.

IX. Prizes

Aside from bragging rights and pride of finishing at the top of the summer badminton fun, Winners and Runners-up in all events shall receive individual custom-made Hotshot Trophies by Just Precision (@juzprecision on Instagram), who specializes in high-quality 3D-printed products designed with innovation, durability and precision at every layer.

X. Precautionary Measures and Injury to Player

Players are advised to keep precautionary measures, play safe and be in proper sports clothing and indoor shoes during the matches. Hotshot BC will not be responsible for any personal injuries during the matches and all throughout the tournament.

In cases where a player is unable to complete the tournament due to injury or illness, the matches played shall be conceded.

XI. Rule of Conduct and Personal Liability

During the tournament, in game and while waiting for games within the precincts of this tournament, players are expected to conduct themselves in a sportsmanlike and honourable manner. Hotshot BC Tournament Committee reserves the right to take action if any report of inappropriate conduct is received.

Also players are responsible for their own personal belongings. Hotshot BC will not be responsible for any loss or damage of personal belongings.
